The CCSE Podcast Competition is a Purdue University supported competition to encourage undergraduate research, improve multimedia presentation skills, and give students an opportunity to win cash prizes. Coming from an Asian American background I was inspired when I did more research on the Japanese Internment Camps during WWII. One story in particular caught my eye and as I asked around I realized that nobody knew about it. Determined to share what I had learned I turned to podcasting as a medium where I was able to win second place in this competition. To listen, click the link below.

The Formation of the TSA and the Legacy of Norman Minteta

After the tragedy of 9/11 the United States government looked to the Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta. After grounding all airplanes, an entire agency had to be formed quickly for people across the country to safely travel by flight again. The formation of the TSA moved at an unprecedented speed, and with the leadership of Mineta was fully functional within a year. However, it was Mineta’s background as a boy who spent his childhood in a Japanese internment camp, who ensured that the nation’s reaction to prejudice of Middle Eastern and Muslim people would not lead to racial scrutiny in security. This is the story of a man who’s past defined America’s future and the intricate background of the formation of the TSA.
